Get the Most Power Out of Your Pneumatic System With Multi Power®

Get the Most Power Out of Your Pneumatic System With Multi Power®

Many manufacturing and packaging lines rely on pneumatics to accomplish tasks such as pushing, pulling, crimping, cutting and hole punching. Most of these shop floors run their compressed air at 90 to 100 psi. At these standard pressures, however, high-thrust applications may require excessively large and costly air cylinders or even hydraulic systems.

Fortunately, our Multi Power® air cylinder is designed for this exact situation. Multi Power air cylinders are a compact, cost-effective pathway to increase the power of your air cylinder actuators, delivering up to four times as much force as a cylinder of the same bore size, actuation and air pressure.

The Multi Power Design
These cylinders magnify force output compared to a cylinder of the same input pressure and envelope size. For example, a 12-inch bore cylinder at 100 psi provides about 11,300 pounds of force. On the other hand, a 12-inch bore, four-stage Multi Power cylinder will produce about 44,000 pounds of force.

A Multi Power actuator’s design consists of multiple pistons attached to a common rod with internal air passages. Each stage is separated by baffles to keep each stage isolated yet powered by the same input air via the single internal air channel. A Multi Power effectively acts like a cylinder of a larger bore size, without requiring a larger bore, because the multiple pistons increase the square area subjected to air pressure.

Multi Power air cylinders are designed to perform in tough environments and feature composite rod bearings, chrome-plated stainless steel piston rods and are pre-lubed with Magnalube-G® Teflon grease to extend lifespan.

Standard features include:

  • Bore sizes ranging from 1 ⅛ to 12 inches.
  • Stroke lengths up to six inches. Consult us for longer lengths.
  • Available in two, three or four stages at 150 psi. Consult us for additional stages at lower pressures.
  • One stage used on the return.
  • Magnetic piston sensing available.
  • Standard Fabco-Air or NFPA mounting options.

Pancake II Multi Power Available
We combined our Pancake® II’s durable composite body design with the multiple stages of a Multi Power unit so you can get the most out of your shop air. The PA and PB Series are both Pancake II Multi Power models and are available in three bore sizes (2 ½, 3 and 4 inches) and with standard stroke lengths up to four inches.

The PA Series is effective for high-force pushing tasks, while the PB Series features multiple retract and single extend cylinder action for high pulling forces.

Pneumatic Air Presses
The innovative Multi Power design allows for a powerful, precise and compact bench press without the need for high-pressure hydraulics. We take a Multi Power cylinder and construct it with a precision framework and base. To meet the demands of press applications, we increased the strength and durability of the air cylinder’s design. Other features include:

  • Hard chrome-plated stainless steel ram.
  • Extended rod bearing length.
  • Duralon® rod bearing.
  • Plated steel keys align the cylinder head with the frame for accurate alignment and rigid construction.

Pneumatic Boosters Ramp up the Power
Our Multi Power Boosters are a low-energy option to increase the control, rigidity and power of your pneumatic machines without spending money on high-pressure hydraulic systems. These compact devices cycle standard shop air to raise the pressure of small volumes of gas or a liquid, enabling intermittent use of high-pressure actuation. Our boosters can withstand an input pressure of 150 psi of shop air or another compatible gas, as well as output oil, liquid, air or gas at pressures up to 500 psi.
